WE'RE TAKING THE CHALLENGE TO FIGHT MS!
Our group, The Sea Monkeys, is looking forward to participating in the 2024 MS Mega Swim Challenge. We are participating in order to raise funds for people living with MS.
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a condition that happens when the immune system attacks the brain and spinal cord. There are more than 33 300 Australians that currently live with MS, and your support can help improve their everyday lives! Common symptoms of MS include changes to memory, concentration or reasoning, dizziness and vertigo, visual disturbance, slurred speech, extreme fatigue, pain, difficulties with walking and balance, and altered muscle tone which can lead to spasms or muscle weakness. Multiple sclerosis severely affects people's daily lives and can change their whole life and how it functions. For instance, can you imagine waking up one day unable to do the everyday things you would usually take for granted? Like not being able to see properly (or at all), you physically can’t get out of bed, can’t walk to the phone to call someone – anyone – or live a life without pain?
The funds that we raise go towards people living with Multiple Sclerosis and will allow them to access support services. Services such as MS Plus Peer Support Groups, connecting people who are newly diagnosed with those who have lived with multiple sclerosis for a number of years, or the Plus Employment Support Service keeping Aussies living with multiple sclerosis in the workforce, as well as many other beneficial programs and supports for people who are affected by MS.
